Brown Sugar worth Rs 35 crore seized

Imphal: A multiple team of Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi led by Subedar L. Bebekananda Singh, Officer-In-Charge Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi assisted by Jemandar Thangminlen Khongsai along with a team of Women PS IE led by its Officer-In-Charge G. Geetenjali Devi arrested two individuals along with suspected Brown Sugar worth approximately Rs. 35 crore in the international market while conducting normal frisking at Hatta Centre Masjid Road, New Lambulance, 2nd Street near Tribal Market on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Th. Krishnatombi Singh, MPS, SP/Railways and In-Charge Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi.

The arrested persons who came on foot have been identified as Deikhoting Haokip (52), wife of Hb Holsei Haokip, Khailenkhup Haokip (31), son of Hb. Holsei Haokip of Longja village under Chakpikarong Sub-Division in Chandel district.

According to a source, while checking the leather carry bag (black in colour) of Deikhoting Haokip, two plastic polythene pouches suspected to be containing brown sugar were found. The plastic polythene pouches suspected to be containing Brown Sugar were marked as ‘A’ and ‘B’ and weighed using scale one after another.

The plastic polythene pouch marked as ‘A’ was found to be weighed 507 gram and the plastic polythene pouch marked as “B” was found to be weighed 509 gram. Thereafter, both the polythene pouches marked ‘A’ and ‘B’ were packed and sealed in a yellow colour envelope. 

Then, the same was seized at 5.15 pm from the possession of Deikhoting Haokip by observing necessary formalities with signatures appended by the witnesses. Thereafter one mobile phone along with an Airtel Sim card and cash amount of Rs. 2550, was also seized at 5.20 PM from her possession by observing necessary formalities, said the source.Later on, one mobile phone along with an Airtel Sim Card was further seized at 5.35 PM from the possession of Khailenkhup Haokip by observing necessary formalities. Both the persons were arrested at 5.35 PM by observing necessary formalities. The arrested accused personnel and the seized items were handed over to Porompat Police Station for further necessary legal action against them, the source added.
