Brown sugar worth Rs 2.5 crore seized

Moreh: Tengnoupal district police on Friday seized brown sugar worth Rs 2.59 crore in the international market from a individual who was heading towards Imphal from Moreh.

Speaking to reporter in a News Conference held at the Office of the Superintendent of Police Tengnoupal District. SP Th. Vikramjit Singh informed that a team of Tengnoupal district police led by Officer Incharge John Lamkang of Tengnoupal Police Station  chekd a Mruti Alto car bearing registration number No. MN05A 9725 coming from Moreh towards Imphal at about 2:00 Friday afternoon.

During the checking, the police found the large quantity of Brown Sugar in 53 Packets. A person identified as Md. Salim khan (27) from Sora of Thoubal District- who was carrying the drugs was also arrested, the SP informed.

Later in the evening around 5:30 a team of Police and Commandos also seized another 50 packets of Brown Sugar while checking another Hyundai Verna Car bearing registration No. WB 26R 5634. The total Brown Sugar seized by Tengnoupal District Police during the day is 103 packets weighing 1.296 Kilograms and is worth about Rs 2.59 crors in International Market, the SP added.

3, Tengnoupal District was also arrested for possessing of Contraband Items. 

A case has been register against the two persons at Tengnoupal Police Station for further legal proceedings.
