Brown Sugar worth Rs 1.9 crore seized

MOREH: Acting on specific inputs from reliable sources, two team of Commando led by Additional SP Operation Moirangthem Amit Singh and Inspector Ksh. Prakash under the supervision of SP Tengnoupal Th. Vikramjit Singh conducted frisking checking near Lokchao Bridge of Imphal Moreh Road NH102 and recovered Rs 1.92 crore worth of brown sugar.

While conducting the check, a person travelling in a Canda Bike towards Imphal from Moreh was stopped and detained. On checking his bike 80 packages of Brown Sugar packed in 7 black polythene bags were found. Immediately the two teams apprehended the person along with the Brown Sugar which weighed 963 grams and estimated at Rs 1crore 92 Lakhs in the international market.

The apprehended person was identified as Jangpao Haokip (40), son of Holkhojang Haokip of Chahmol Village, Tengnoupal District. The apprehended person and brown sugar were handed over to Moreh Police Station for further legal proceedings, police reports added. A case has been registered at Moreh Police.
