BJP Manipur Pradesh observes 1975 National Emergency “Black Day”

TMB Report

IMPHAL: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh on Thursday observed “Black Day of Declaration of Emergency” to mark the anniversary of the controversial declaration of emergency in the country by the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on this day in 1975. The function was held at its state party office at Nityaipat Chuthek, Keishampat.

During the observation, MP Dr. RK Ranjan Singh said that the Congress party has attacked the Narendra Modi government very frequently saying that the BJP is violating the Constitution of India. It is time that the BJP tend to the allegation and discuss in depth whether the democracy is violated by the BJP or Congress party. He went on to question whether Article 352 of Constitution of India allows imposition of emergency, which was brought into effect by a Congress Prime Minister.

He further said that according to Article 352 of the Indian Constitution, the nationwide emergency can be imposed only when there is a threat against the nation from external aggression but she misused Article 352 and declared national emergency. After declaration of emergency, based on 44th Amendment 1978, she argued that the emergency can be declared if there is an internal insecurity, for which she was herself responsible. Dr. RK Ranjan criticized the decision stating that the Constitution of India was misused during the reign of late Indira Gandhi which was beautifully prepared by the father of the Constitution Dr. Br. Ambedkar for every citizen of India.

During the period of nationwide emergency, under her leadership around 1, 40, 000 citizens of India were arrested and put into the prison for their participation in various movements to save the nation. During that year 1975, she censored all the news, and gagged the newspapers and other media including All India Radio. It was a national emergency that stifled the voice of every citizen in India. The people who were arrested during the movement have been kept in the prison for 21 months and subjected to torture and other hardships. The governments led by BJP have been commemorating the unfortunate incidents, and have been serving the people of the country not to let the tragic incidents of 1975 happen again.

Even the two great BJP leaders of that time namely LK Advani and late Atal Bihari Vajpayee were hurled into prison for 21 months. Let us all join hands and give our best efforts not to have such a disastrous period ever again. He also pointed out the most popular slogans used during that time by the Congress party was “India is Indira Gandhi; Indira Gandhi is India”. During the reign of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee the party never said that Atal Bihari is India and Narendra Modi never said that too, we only say that we serve the people, added the MP Ranjan.

He also further stated that the Congress party is a dynasty based political party. He also castigated the Congress for trying to destabilize the BJP government and the party. He also appealed to all leaders, members, and workers of the BJP in the state to work hard by joining hands and try to acquire maximum seats in the next general election of the state.

State BJP President Professor S. Tikendra Singh, ex-MLA Meinam Bhorot, former minister Dr. Loken, BJP spokesperson Dr. Nimaichand Luwang and other leaders attended the observation. Many leaders from different constituencies were also present at the day.
