TMB Report

IMPHAL: The flag hoisting ceremony of the Indian National Congress’s (INC) candidate for the 51-Saitu Assembly constituency Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip was held at Kholep Village, Saitu in Kangpokpi district on Monday.

The flag was ceremoniously hoisted by former chief minister O. Ibobi Singh, as the Chief Guest of the ceremony. MPCC President M. Okendro and Saitu Block Congress Committee President, Nehlu Gangte both presided over the function, while CWC member, AICC Gaikhangam, MLA TN Haokip, and MLA Dr. Chaltolien Amo of the Congress Legislature Party were the guests of honors of the event.

Congress President Moirangthem Okendro stated it is essential for a government to take decisions during discussions on developmental policies and programs to be undertaken for both hills and valleys. However, the BJP-led government in the state has not given any attention to bringing any progressive changes in terms of infrastructure or social development, both in the hills and the valley.

“Despite enlisting new development projects in the state, all that matter to the government is to create a sense of division between the people of hills and valley with slogans like ‘Go to Hills’, ‘Go to Village’, or, ‘Go to School’ missions on false promises. He said the saffron government should engage in other development programmes other than inaugurating those projects already completed by the Congress regime or had taken up during by it”, he mentioned.

M. Okendro further requested the gathering and the people of Saitu AC to vote for Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip reminding that he is well educated, young and dynamic person that could bring a massive change with his vision for “Youth for Change” and gaining the approval of the Central Congress party leaders as a prominent candidate for the upcoming by-election.

CLP leader O. Ibobi told that Ngamthang Haokip, who is the BJP candidate for the upcoming bye-election, had already bounced, though unofficially, to the side of the ruling party right after he got elected as a Congress candidate in 2017 Assembly election only with selfish intentions and hunger for power.

“No party who is in power at the Centre or the state has the power to deny the rights of the people. Therefore, the people must realize this and to pursue the dream of bringing long term developmental changes and vision the mandate must be served to well educated people like Dr. Lamtinthang who is a young and energetic person,” he said.

MLA Govindas Konthoujam stated that Congress Party is always being full of wisdom and practical, whereas BJP has a custom of propaganda and false promises. He also said that BJP has been destroying the economy of the country.

MLA Gainkhangam told the gathering that BJP’s candidate and Ex-MLA Ngamthang Haokip is a person whose intention is only to enjoy and bounce between political parties just for his selfish benefits and not interested in bringing development for the people of Saitu AC.

“The upcoming by-election which falls on 7th November amidst COVID-19 warfare is a day of reckoning for Ngamthang Haokip. However, saying that ‘better late than never’, it is the right opportunity to teach lessons by the people of Saikot AC and elect a young and dynamic, well educated and determined person like Dr. Lemtingtinthang”, he stated.

INC candiate Dr. Lemtinthang Haokip shouted slogans of “Youth for Change” and stated that he is concerned about women’s empowerment, child care and giving education as the basic needs for bringing major change in the life of the people of Saitu AC. He expressed his love for parents who are working hard just to see their children becoming a successful person in life recalling how he grew up and reach to such a certain level of having the privilege to serve the people of Saikot as a Congress party candidate.

Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip will be contesting the by-election to be held on 7th November as a candidate of Indian National Congress for the upcoming 51- Saitu Assembly Constituency.
