IMPHAL: Wisecrabs – Chandel has declared the results of the special district level Photography Contest on the theme – Better Chandel Road held from July 07-20.

Mr Len Serbum from Kapaam village was adjudged the winner for his photo showing two kids trying to protect themselves from a splash with an umbrella as a vehicle passed by. Declaring the results, the judges said that the photo of Len Serbum “has cleverly emphasised the photo on the two kids protecting themselves from the splash. This perfectly highlights the ordeal ordinary people face on everyday basis”.

He took home Rs 5000 in cash while the second and third position went to Miss Shuhlungri Tongsin and Mr Behring Sankhil who received Rs 3000 and Rs 1500 respectively. Miss Thahrin Langhu and Mr PS Jonah Anal were awarded consolation prizes of Rs 500 each.

The objective of the contest was to put the spotlight on the pathetic condition of Pallel-Chandel road and highlight the mood, feeling, and collective aspirations of Chandel people in demanding quality and durable road repairing, Wisecrabs said in a press note.

For a long time, the people of Chandel have suffered intolerably the pathetic condition of the Pallel-Chandel road, a declared highway connecting Chandel with rest of Manipur. Occasional repair works are done on the road, which are unfortunately, mere hogwash to the public. The worsening condition of the road has brought untold misery to the people and harmed quite a lot of vehicles too. The recent announcement of CM on the proposed repair work by NHIDCL has filled Chandel with optimism and starting of work at the earliest is eagerly awaited.

The district level contest was judged by two of Chandel’s very own popular and talented photographers – Mr Rashingam Ng & Mr John Monsang. Participants from all over the district send in their entries.

And in a major relief for the district, CM Biren recently announced that he had sanctioned a sum of Rs 100 crore meant for repairing the road from Pallel to Chandel HQs which is in a pathetic condition, as seen from the winner’s photo.
