IMPHAL: After the announcement of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi for total lockdown from 25th of March 2020 to control the COVID 19 pandemic in the country, there was a big question that rose about the weaker section.
In order to ensure that weaker sections of the society continue to get the basic amenities and do not get impacted during the lock down period due to COVID 19, Rs1.70 lakh crore Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 26th March 2020, the PIB said.
As part of the package a total of 20.40 crore PMJDY women account-holders would be given an ex-gratia of Rs 500 per month for next three months. The first instalment of Rs 2,000 due in 2020-21 will be front-loaded and paid in April 2020 itself under the PM KISAN Yojana which covers 8.7crores farmers, the PIB informed in a press statement.
In Manipur also the Government is ensuring that nobody suffers from the lockdown. The state machineries are trying their best to deliver the promises of the government to the people and beneficiaries from different districts are happy to share their stories, as per the PIB statement.
Women play an enormous role in a household, the PIB said adding that one woman beneficiary Sapam Chanu Memi of Chana Mayai Leikai, Imphal East shared that she got ₹ 500 for Jan Dhan Yojana, ₹ 891 for Ujjwala Yojana, ₹ 2000 for Kisan Credit Cardin her bank account. For this she is thankful to the government of India.
After the lockdown along with focusing on containing the pandemic the Government has taken up the same level of priority with addressing the hardship of the people.One such story is about Pr. Rengthao Chothe of Chandropo Village in Chandel district Manipur and his family express their gratitude and happiness to the Govt. for initiative ofPMGKY. He said Rs. 500/- Jan Dhan Yojana, and Rs. 2000/- (PM Kisan) was credited in his account through DBT.
