PHERZAWL: A special awareness program on Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Matritve Abhiyan (PMSMA) and special antenatal clinic was held at Thanlon village in Pherzawl district on Tuesday under the aegis of maternal Division, SHS, NHM, Manipur led by its State Nodal Officer Dr. Meena Seram and a host of volunteers specialist doctors including Dr Digel, Associate professor JNIMS; Dr. S Sukadeva from JNIMS; and Dr. Somananda Singh, also from JNIMS, who were aided by doctors of Thanlon PHC Dr.Siami and other staffs .
On the occasion free checking of BP, height, weight etc , laboratory testing , ultrasound, antenatal check up by specialist Doctor were organised in which a total of 61 women turn up for check up, including 21pregnant women. Seven high risk pregnancy cases were detected and they will be given special treatment and will be referred to other hospital on need basis. Free diet and medicines distribution to pregnant women was also one of the highlights of the occasion where patients from villages around Thanlon sub division attended and avail the facility provided which was the first time for most of them.
Dr Meena Seram told a group of media person that this was their 14 outing to provide special treatment to far flung villages , especially pregnant women who can avail PMSMA provided they have their health card and go for regular check up to their nearest health center which she said is the Government of India flagship program. PHC in-charge and doctors, ASHA workers, pregnant women expressed their gratitude to the maternal Division of SHS , NHM Manipur and also the volunteers doctors from Imphal. The District Program Manager, District Health Society Pherzawl District , NHM, Mrs Zenngaihlun, who was involved in arranging stays for the medical team ,on behalf of Pherzawl District thanked the team for coming to the remote area for the cause of pregnant women which is more than 150 kms from Lamka town.
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) is a program conducted on 9th of every month initiated by the Government of India to provide free antenatal care to pregnant women. As part of PMSMA the State Government had initiated a special initiative program ‘Mirongbising Gi Khudol ‘ where specialist /OBGC doctor from Imphal use to provide Antenatal service where there is lack of specialist /OBGC doctor especially in the remote and hill districts of Manipur which is the 14 special initiative PMSMS/OBGS program conducted by the State health department so far.
