IMPHAL: The District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee (DLNMBCC), Thoubal has collaborated with District Administration Thoubal to organise a one day district level awareness generation programme on alcohol abuse and substance abuse at the Kshetri Shanglen in Thoubal on Monday.
In a press release signed by Member Secretary of DLC on NMBCC, A. Kameshwar Singh, the DC of Thoubal N. Bandana Devi expressed at the programme that it was very unfortunate for the district to be selected as one of the 272 district for Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign and appealed to show a drug free Thoubal District in next year’s assessment result.
Bandana remarked that it is important for the family to be core for preventing drug and alcohol abuse. She also mentioned the need for focusing on youth especially children to make them aware of its ill effects.
During the programme resource person Oken Naoriya shared his testimony on his real life experience on how he became a drug addict and how successfully he has been helping the drug addicts in rehabilitation and recovery. He also expressed the need of parents monitoring their wards since family plays an important role for controlling relapse.
Another speaker mentioned that marginalized sections of the society are more prone to substance use and no department can fight it alone but the needful must be done at community level. It is also said that not only the demand but also the supply side should be checked, the speaker added.
Further, Yumnam Laxman member of NMBCC expressed that self determination is the only way to prevent drug abuse and alcohol abuse and also said that life without drugs is beautiful.
The event was attended by Hasina Begum as Chief Guest, Chief Medical Officer Dr. N. Jayentakumar Singh, District Social Welfare Officer/Member Secretary NMBCC A. Kameshwar Singh, Secretary of All Manipur Nupimanbi Association Shanta Khurai along with Senior Counselor of IRCA Pakhangkhong and 66 people including those from the transgender community of Thoubal district by maintaining social distancing regulations of Covid-19.
