Attack on BSF Post: Police arrest 3 main accused including leader of student org.

Thoubal: Thoubal district police have successfully arrested 3 main accused who were allegedly involved in the attack on BSF CI post at Wangjing under Thoubal Police Station on Sunday.

Moreover, huge explosive devices were also seized from their possession.

According to police, the three arrested miscreants were identified as Aribam Md. Iliyas khan (22 years), son of Md. Heshamuddin Khan @ Tomba and Phundreimayum Md. Akram Hussain (22), son of Md. Muheiruddin both from Sangaiyumpham Part – 1 Puleipokpi, Thoubal District and Khumukcham Pradeep Luwang (33), son of Kh. Mangoljao of Kakching Khunou Thingnam Bokul Leikai, Kakching district.

Among the three, Md. Iliyas Khan is the organisation secretary of a student organisation called RSF (Reformist Students Front), Thoubal District branch, police informed.

Disclosing the details of the arrested miscreants during a press briefing held at the office of the Superintendant of Police, Thoubal District on Monday, SP Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, briefed the media persons that on Sunday at around 7.25 pm, an IED blast had occurred near 113 Battallion BSF ‘E’ Coy CI Post located at Wangjing Tekcham Leikai.

SP briefed that immediately, a team of Thoubal Police comprising of Additional SP(Ops)/Thoubal Sachidananda Soibam, MPS; SDPO/Thoubal H. Johny Sharma, MPS; DSP(Ops)/Thoubal A. Khelen, MPS; OC CDO/Thoubal Inspector N. Sadananda; OC/Thoubal Police Station Inspector N. Jadumani;  RI/Thoubal Inspector N. Suresh led by SP himself rushed to the area and conducted cordon and search operation and house to house search.

The police team were assisted by a team of 113 Battalion BSF comprising of Commander 113 Battallion BSF Hidam Subol, AC (CI Wangjing) Naveen Jakhar and E-Coy, CI Wangjing Inspector Hussain, SP informed.

The SP also briefed that during the combined operation, a blood soaked jacket was found and added that the police team followed the blood trail up to western bank of Heirok-Wangjing river and while searching an area at Wangjing Wangkhei located at the other side of the river, the police team surrounded two suspected houses. In that, one suspected person was found hiding in an incomplete pucca house located at Wangjing Wangkhei Maibam leirak.

He was overpowered by the police team when he tried to escape and had been picked up from the spot, SP added.

SP further disclosed that the arrestee had identified himself as one Aribam Md.Iliyas (22), son of Md. Heshamuddin Khan of Sangaiyumpham Part – 1 Puleipokpi, Thoubal district and added that on spot inquiry the arrestee had disclosed that he along with one Phundreimayum Md. Akram Hussain (22), son of Md. Muheiruddin of Sangaiyumpham Part – 1 Puleipokpi planted and blasted the IED near the BSF camp on the instruction of one Khumukcham Pradeep Luwang (33), son of Mangoljao of Kakching Khunou Thingnam Bokul Leikai.

The SP stated that immediately the police team rushed to Sangaiyumpham area and conducted search opertaion, in that Md. Akram Hussain was arrested.

After that the police team led by Additional SP (Ops)/Thoubal Sachidananda Soibam launched an operation and said accused Kh. Pradeep Luwang was arrested from near Khangabok Higher Secondary School on NH-102 on Sunday night itself.

The accused Pradeep confessed that he went to Moreh along with Md. Iliyas khan in January 2020 last and met the commander of the banned proscribed militant outfit PREPAK namely self-styled commander Tamocha and one of his cadre at Myanmar, SP informed.

The leaders taught the accused persons about the assembly of IED and planned about the IED attacks on security forces. Tamocha delivered the materials necessary for IED and Kh. Pradeep Luwang and Md. Iliyas Khan assembled one IED which was planted and blasted on Sunday near BSF CI Post Wangjing by Md. Iliyas Khan and Md. Akram Hussain under the instruction of Kh. Pradeep Luwang who was instructed again by self-styled commander Tamocha of PREPAK.

On the disclosure of Kh. Pradeep Luwang, 7 detonators, explosive chemicals weighing 2.530 kg, one electronic circuit, one multi-meter with wires, one remote control device, one dry battery (9 volt), 3 mobile handsets, one DIO scooter were recovered from the house of Aribam Md. Iliyas Khan.

Additional SP(ops)/Thoubal Sachidananda Soibam, SDPO/Thoubal H. Johny Sharma, OC CDO/Thoubal Inspector N. Sadananda and many other officers of Thoubal District Police were among those who also attended in the press briefing.
