Imphal: In pursuance of ‘All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), Charter of Demand’ on various issues confronting the populace of the state and in continuation of the ongoing tour to hill districts, ATSUM team visited Tamenglong district on December 1,2020 and held a meeting with the district administration at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong.

The district administration was led by Amrstrong Pame, DC and attended by DLOs of various departments including Medical Superintendent (MS) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district.

The visiting team stressed on various issues such as education system, health facilities, functioning of ADC and other major aspects concerning the tribal populace of the district. In the course of the meeting, it was learnt that the health care system in the district needs special attention of the state government for effective and efficient administration as most of the health institutions are located in interior parts of the district, said the release of ATSUM.

The release further informed that the present working strength is only 40 percent of the sanctioned staff. There is no blood bank facility and dialysis machine in the district hospital without staff quarters and potable water facilities in most of the health institutions. Considering the geographical remoteness of the areas and in view of the global pandemic COVID-19, the apex tribal students body ATSUM appealed to the state government to undertake citizen-centric initiative related to the health care system and provide adequate medical facilities with full-strength staff as an urgent requirement.

Later, ATSUM executives inspected the lone college in the district Tamenglong College and held interaction with the administrative staff. In a video released to media person, Seiboi Haokip, president of the apex tribal students body ATSUM appealed to the state government to redress the various grievances faced by the college related to infrastructures and inadequate teaching and non-teaching staff. The college is functioning without a clerk and the present teaching staff strength does not even reach the sanctioned nos. of posts.

Regarding opening of Science stream in the college, which is one of ATSUM Charter of Demand, the government had given their due approval for starting of the same yet we would like to draw the attention of the government and appealed the concern authority to initiate process for opening of Science stream at the earliest, said Seiboi Haokip in a release.

The ATSUM extended its gratitude to the DC, Tamenglong district for his warm welcome and concern for the development of the district.
