IMPHAL: The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has cried foul over the failure of the State government to fulfil the resolutions passed during a Cabinet meeting held on November 10, 2020 regarding the conduct of Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections in six hill districts.
General Secretary of ATSUM SR. Andria Anal while addressing a press conference held at its office at Adimjati Complex, Chingmeirong on Sunday appealed to the state government that it makes its plans on holding of ADC election transparent to the people, while advising that it should be held at the earliest.
He said in connection with the ADC election a meeting between the tribal student union and state government was held on November 4, 2020 during which the state government made a commitment that the timing of the elections would be decided after the cabinet meeting which was scheduled to be held on November 10, 2020. On the same day the state government had passed the resolutions that the election in six hill districts would be conducted on November 30, 2020. But the government has not fulfilled its promise, the union said.
Further, he said that the ADC is a local level of governance which can bring a local voice to the governance. With that prospective, the union has appealed to the state government to conduct the ADC election on time.
