ATSUM appeals govt to look into situation of students amidst pandemic

Imphal: The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Saturday has appealed the government and concerned authorities to look into the aforementioned circumstances and take up appropriate steps by passing an ordinance to manage, time and other resources as per requirement and accommodate all the students in the interest of the students and in view of the Covid-19 situation.

In a press release of ATSUM signed by its assistant secretary education Thangtinlen Haokip, it was stated that with the current Covid-19 pandemic many students have returned from various cities and aspire to pursue further studies in the state. Owing to the nationwide lockdown and closure of various educational institutions, academic progress of students has been compromised.

Further, immigration of students for further studies on account of education is also at risk. However, with the current intakes capacity of various colleges under Manipur University and DM University, majority of students would not get enrolled and lose an academic year. It is thus imperative for the state government to sort out the feasibilities and intake of students in view of the present situation.
