IMPHAL: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized huge quantity of Myanmar Cigarettes and apprehended three smugglers between Machi Junction and Semang village in Chandel District on Saturday.
IGAR(S) informed in a press release that based on the specific input, on Saturday at around 00:30 am, troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation between Machi Junction and Semang village. Troops stopped a suspected Auto vehicle bearing registration number MN 06 SA 4276 which was driven by Mr Puyamboy Singh, age 53 years, S/o Thampa Singh alongwith two others passengers namely (i) Shagolsem Cheitei Singh, age 40 years, S/o Shagolsem Sanakhomba Singh (iii) Shagolsem Ingocha Singh, age 33 years, S/o Shagolsem Maipak Singh. All of them were held from Langathel village in Thoubal District. On carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle, troops recovered 6,550 packets of Myanmar Cigarettes worth Rupees lakhs which were being transported from Myanmar to Imphal, the IGAR(S) said.
Apprehendees along with the seized items were handed over to the Machi Police Station for further tests related to COVID -19 symptoms and legal action, the IGAR(S) said. Assam Rifles will continue to check such nefarious activities of illicit drug smuggling in Manipur to protect the youth from the menace of drug addiction.
