IMPHAL: Assam Rifles celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with Jehovah Jireh Children’s Home, Moreh to remember the unforgettable contribution of the Father of Nation towards freedom struggle with peace and non-violence.
To enhance skill-development, self-dependence and to boost confidence of kids at the Centre, Assam Rifles provided assistance by presenting sewing-machines and other essential tools to the Children Home to help them establish a handmade mask factory and also placed order for 2000 masks for the troops. Apart from this, in an attempt to foster a sense of responsibility towards nature among children, a tree plantation drive was also conducted at the Children Home, IGAR(S) said in a press release.
Approximately 40 children and staff enthusiastically participated in the celebration, followed by a motivational lecture given to motivate the kids to do well in academics so as to have a successful future and to contribute positively towards nation-building, the IGAR(S) said.
The effort was well appreciated by the Orphanage staff for celebrating Gandhi Jayanti with kids and for inculcating the sense of patriotism in young minds.
In Chandel district, the Assam Rifles provided 12 Bunk Beds for the Children of Orphange Home, Hnatham village, Chandel (Manipur) on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
According to the IGAR(S), the Bunk Beds were handed over to the children by the Commandant, Chandel Battalion, Assam Rifles at the Orphanage Home in Chandel while ensuring COVID-19 protocol. The project was another initiative of the Assam Rifles after considering the living conditions of the Children. It was found that due to poor living conditions, the children were prone to various infections. Considering the emergent nature of health of children, Assam Rifles aimed to provide better living conditions to the children, the IGAR(S) said.
The Orphanage Home has been regularly looked after by the Chandel Battalion Assam Rifles in order to take care of the Children with all possible means and further contribute in the improvement of the Children home. During the COVID -19 lockdown, Assam Rifles continued to provide essential ration, medicines and other supplies to the Orphanage Home. During the handing over ceremony, the Commandant also interacted with children & staffs and assured that the Assam Rifles will continue to help children and guide them to achieve greater success in life. On this occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, tree-plantation and distribution of medicines was also carried out.
The caretakers of the orphanage home and villagers present conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to the Assam Rifles for the noble gesture by provisioning of the bunk beds at orphanage home for such large strength of children. The Assam Rifles also assured their continuous support for the well being of the children and helping the children to achieve their dreams in life.
Assam Rifles in Kakching also organised various events on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Friday.
The events started with a speech on the subject “Mohan to Mahatma”. This was an endeavour to ensure that teachings of Bapuji continue to inspire one and all. This was followed by a painting competition for children to connect children with the ever inspiring teachings and life of Gandhiji. This event witnessed an enthusiastic participation by a total of 22 children, IGAR(S) said.
A tree plantation drive was also carried out wherein a total of 300 saplings were planted. The event concluded with a cleanliness drive maintaining the essence of “Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan”, an issue close to the heart of Gandhiji who believed in spiritual cleansing not only of India but of the entire world. All the events were conducted adhering to the protocols of CoVID-19.
