IMPHAL: The troops of Indian Army in a solemn ceremony bid the final farewell to Late Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei as he was laid to rest with full military honours at Leimakhong in Imphal West District of Manipur on 15 Jun 2020. The brave soldier made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty along LOC in Poonch Sector in Jammu and Kashmir on 13 Jun 2020.
Earlier in the day, the mortal remains of Late Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei were flown in from Delhi to Imphal in an aircraft, PIB (Defene Wing) informed in a press release. Before being taken to Leimakhong, serving troops paid their respects to the martyr in a hallowed wreath laying ceremony at Tulihal Airport, the PIB added.
At 5:40 PM the cortege of the martyred soldier was paid last respects by the local military commanders from Army as the buglers sounded the Last Post. The Indian Tricolour was handed over to Mrs Elizabeth, the wife of late Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei in presence of host of relatives, friends and veterans of Leimakhong, the PIB said.
