AR seizes smuggled contraband items at Tengnoupal

IMPHAL: As part of effective measures being undertaken to stop smuggling of contraband items and also  maintain the lockdown implemented all across the nation and porous Indo Myanmar border along NH 102, the troops of Tengnopal Battalion of Pallel Sector Assam Rifles  under aegis of HQ IGAR (South) while carrying out Mobile Vehicle Check Post, searched and recovered huge quantity of contraband items smuggled from Moreh to Imphal in two separate incidences conducted one after the other in a short period of time.

A total of WIN cigarettes and other items worth lakhs were seized, IGAR(S) said in a press release.

In the prevailing situation due to COVID -19, Assam Rifles  has been able to prevented a great threat of supply of products from across the borders in local markets thereby preventing the spread of the pandemic. Strict implementation of curfew orders and Vigilant screening of vehicles and persons has resulted in preventing the illigal trade of unauthorized items in the black market, IGAR(S) said.

The seized cigarettes and other contraband items along with carrier vehicle with detained individuals were later handed over to Police Station, Tengnoupal for further action.
