IMPHAL: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South), recovered illegal timber on Wednesday around 12:00 noon at Shangshak Junction.
The IGAR(S) informed in a press release that on receipt of a credible input from a reliable source, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established at Shangshak junction at around 11:00 AM on Wednesday. At around 12:00 noon, two TATA trucks bearing the registration numbers MN-01-8017 and MN-04-2494 driven by one Mr Tomba Singh and another Mr Herojeet Singh were intercepted. On carrying out thorough checking of the documents and vehicles, they were found carrying 860 cubic feet of Pinewood without valid permit for the same, the IGAR(S) said.
The total value of the smuggled Pinewood is approximately Rs. 8 lakh. The trucks were moving from Gamnoum to Imphal and both drivers belong to Imphal, the IGAR(S) said,
Shangshak Police Station was contacted for the same and the recovered items along with vehicles and drivers have been handed over to them for further action, IGAR(S) said.
