IMPHAL: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) on Sunday stopped a Tata Truck at 2:00 PM bearing registration number NL 01 AA 4890 and Tata DI Truck bearing registration number MN 01 W 1354 travelling from Moreh to Imphal at Khudengthabi Check Post.
The IGAR(S) stated in a press release that on carrying out thorough checking of the vehicles, troops recovers 589 cartons of foreign made Sanitizers worth Rs 1.66 Cr approximately along with 64 cartons of Alcohol Spray, 01 carton of Fish Feed and Hooks worth Rs. 7.68 Lakh. The cost of total items recovered was Rs. 1.74 Cr, the IGAR(S) said.
On enquiry, it was found that the Tata Truck was driven by Laishram Inao Singh, S/o Mr L Birachandra Singh of Chingmeirong under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal East District, Manipur and Tata DI was driven by Konjengbam Ranjan Meetei of Khunou Leikai, Moreh Ward No 9, Tengnoupal District alongwith Maibam Herojit Meitei of Khunou Leikai, Moreh Ward No 9, Tengnoupal District. The drivers were not in possession of any documents or bills, the IGAR(S) said.
The Superintendent of Customs Department at Moreh was contacted to clarify the same who confirmed that these items had not passed through the ICP and Customs will take them over, according to the IGAR(S).
The apprehenders along with the recovered items have been handed over to Customs Department, Imphal for further investigations.
