IMPHAL: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South), received specific input about movement of Vehicles towards Heirok late Thursday evening.
According to IGAR(S), troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle bearing Registration No. MN 04 P 1374 Mahindra Bolero Pick up (White colour) travelling to Heirok. The driver was identified as Mr Ningthoujam Amubi Singh, Age 50 yrs, s/o Ningthoujam Ibotombi singh Vill Heirok Ward no 3 , PO Wanjing Dist, Thoubal Manipur along with a passenger Mr Ningthoujam samananda Singh, Age- 34 yrs, s/o Ningthoujam Deva singh vill, Heirok p. o Wangjing Dist, Thoubal manipur
On carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle, imported cigarettes were found in the vehicle. It was also revealed that some of the cartons were hidden inside the jungle which were also recovered. 64 cartons of imported cigarettes worth Rs 1.10 cr were recovered, the IGAR(S) said.
Assam Rifles has been at the forefront of curbing smuggling of contraband items. Contraband items worth crores have been recovered in the past two days.
The Apprehendees and the recovered items were handed over to the Custom Office Pallel for further investigations.
