AR personnel arrested with WY tablets worth Rs 2 crore

IMPHAL: A personnel of 6 Assam Rifle was arrested along with 2,30,000 numbers of World is Yours (WY) tablets worth more than Rs 2 crores along the National Highway, Imphal-Moreh road on Thursday night by a team of Thoubal commando and was taken into seven days police custody remand till February 12 after been produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal.

According to the police source stated on Friday that yesterday a team of Thoubal district police commando while conducting random checking of vehicles on getting specific information of illegal items along the Imphal Moreh road detained one Maruti Swift Dzire car on suspicious for checking at Wangjing Bazar at around 8.30 pm coming toward Imphal from Pallel side.

During the checking of the sliver colour Maruti Swift Desire with registration number MN01-AG-2370 one black airbag was found concealed in rear trunk of the vehicle.

On checking of the black airbag 23 packets containing 2 lakh 30 thousand W/Y tablets was found inside and hence the driver of the car was detained by police team for questioning.

During the preliminary interrogation the driver of the vehicle was identified as Yengkhom Bikram, 35 years, s/o Chandramohan @ Mohan of Kakching Moirangthem Leikai and also revealed that he is a personnel of 6 Assam Rifle and had recently shifted to Anuranchal Pradesh from Manipur after the completion of their tenure in the state.

Hence, the alleged accused was arrested and seized the drug items on spot by observing necessary formalities yesterday night and handed over to Thoubal Police station for necessary action under ND&PS Act.

The alleged accused Yengkhom Bikram was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal by the IO of the case along with the prayer for seven days police custody remand of the alleged accused for further investigation of the case.

The court on perusal of the police prayer found it satisfactory and thus remanded the alleged accused Assam Rifle personnel for 7 days police custody remand till February 12, 2020.
