IMPHAL: Units of HQ IGAR (South) organises the friendly Football Matches to promote the Fit India Movement at various part of the state on Saturday.

Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles organised a friendly Football Match between Haolenphai Village and Moreh Youth Club at Haolenphai Football ground, IGAR(S) said in a press release

Haolenphai village Chief and Villagers had approached Assam Rifles during the month of December 2019 for preparing a football ground in their village. The necessity was felt and speedy actions were initiated by Assam Rifles for fulfilling the request from villagers, the IGAR(S) said. Combined efforts of Assam Rifles and Villagers resulted in successful preparation of football ground by January 2020. The inauguration matches were played between Haolenphai village and Moreh Youth Club which was won by Haolenphai team. Commandant, Moreh Battalion distributed the prizes to the participating teams and while addressing the gathering, Commandant emphasised on the importance of encouraging games among the youth and motivated them to join the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, Kakching Battalion of 28 Sector Assam Rifles organised Sugnu School Olympics under Fit India Movement at Sugnu in Kakching District, the IGAR(S) stated further.

The aim of this event was to spread awareness about the importance of physical fitness and healthy living. Students of Manipur are sports enthusiast and have carved out a niche in sports at National and International level that speaks volume of the importance they give to physical fitness. A total of 250 students participated in this athletics event which included 100 Mtr and 400 Mtr Races, Shot Put and Tug of War for both boys and girls in various categories. The student participated with great zeal and enthusiasm.

The students and staff of various schools thanked the Kakching battalion for providing a platform for children to excel in the athletics and carry forward vision of “Fit India” ahead. To honour and appreciate the winners, prizes were distributed and light refreshment was served to all the participants at the end of the event.

Subsequently, Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles conducted a friendly Football Match at Khongjom village in Thoubal District.

Khongjom Company Operating Base (COB) organised a friendly football match with an aim of strengthening the bond and mutual trust between locals and Security Forces. The match was played between the teams of Youth Club Phunderi and troops of Khongjom Company Operating Base (COB).

 The match was played with full vigor and enthusiasm showcasing true team spirit by the teams.  Both the teams played with great zeal and gave their best efforts on the field. At the end of the match, both the winning and the runners up teams were felicitated with tokens of appreciation.  The event concluded with tea and refreshment for all.
