IMPHAL: In the wake of ongoing lockdown due to Novel Corona Virus pandemic, local orphanages in Churachandpur district have been facing acute shortage supplies and funds to meet their basic daily necessities.
The veterans of the Armed Forces residing in the area identified this issue and approached the Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles for assistance. The ‘Angels Place Orphanage’, Churachandpur is one of the major orphanages in the town which was facing acute shortage of food and supplies for last one week. The orphanage is home to approximately 160 children alongwith their guardians and was in urgent need of assistance from the society, IGAR(S) said in a press release.
All the Assam Rifles units of churachandpur sector, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), in the districts of Churachandpur and Pherzawl voluntarily contributed approx 1,300 Kgs of Rations for the orphanage on 24th Apr to help them tide over these difficult times, IGAR(S) said. The Assam Rifles has been forefront in answering the calls from the society and assured its continuous support to the people of Manipur in the prevailing tough situation.
The kind gesture of our Armed Forces of sharing and caring for the local populace was well appreciated by the locals and CSOs alike which is in line with the Assam Rifles motto of ‘Friends of the Northeast’.
