IMPHAL: Somsai Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a village Security Meet at Poi village in Ukhrul district on Saturday.
The meet was attended by village Headman, village Pastor, Women members of Tangkhul Sangnao Long (TSL) and the locals of Poi village, IGAR(S) stated in a press release.
“The aim of the meet was to sensitise the locals regarding the current situation, the ongoing protests in Ukhrul and Senapati districts and the necessity of maintaining peace in the area. The Poi Company Operating Base (COB) Commander urged the locals not to be swayed or affected by the situation and assured that the Assam Rifles are striving their best towards overall betterment of the people. The locals were assured that the presence of security forces is conducive to the progress and development of the local populace,” the statement said.
The village headman highlighted the difficulties faced by the people in their day to day lives and requested the help of Assam Rifles for training the village youth for recruitment in the Armed Forces, according to the paramilitary statement. The village authorities also reportedly expressed their sincere gratitude towards the Assam Rifles for helping the locals through various projects and providing timely medical assistance, and assured their cooperation to the Security Forces with the common cause of maintaining peace and harmony in the area.
