IMPHAL: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted a series of Tree Plantation Drives in Tengnoupal and Chandel District wherein a total 4601 saplings of various types including fruit bearing plants were planted at Chandel Town, Modi, Pallel, Bongyang, Larong, Machi, Kotal Khuntak and Moltuk villages on 03rd Sep 2020 and 04th Sep 2020 .
The major objective of this drive is to spread awareness and encourage locals to play an important role in preventing the loss of biodiversity and preserving Mother Nature, IGAR(S) said in a press release. Chandel being one of the 255 drought prone districts in the country, various events were also earlier organized by the Chandel Battalion such as Rain Water Harvesting, Awareness lecture and Tree Plantation drive to spread awareness on environment conservation to the remotest village of Chandel district, the IGAR(S) said.
Chandel Battalion with the assistance of Department of Forest, Chandel, Tengnoupal and Thoubal Districts, collected various fruit bearing saplings from various nurseries. In this drive, all ranks of Assam Rifles and the local populace actively participated and pledged to improve the ecology and environment.
Assam Rifles seeks to raise awareness amongst the local populace to play active role towards environment conservation .The locals extended their gratitude to Assam Rifles for generating awareness on saving biodiversity and continuously contributing towards environment conservation.
