Imphal: World Red Cross Day is celebrated every year on May 8 to commemorate the principles of International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. It is also the day to draw attention of the public to the humanitarian activities carried out by Red Cross and its affiliated organizations, said a press release of PIB Defence Wing.
On this occasion the Medical officers, Nursing staff and other Para Medical staff of 44 ASSAM RIFLES under the aegis of 22 Sect AR/IGAR(E) conducted a COVID Awareness Program in Tamenglong town. The unit displayed vehicle mounted posters aiming at spreading awareness about the importance of COVID vaccination and following COVID appropriate behaviours. The vehicle traversed through various lanes and bylanes of the town in its endeavor to reach out to the society even better than before.
The main objective of the awareness program included providing prompt, simple and focused communication on vaccine safety and timelines ensuring understanding of the importance of vaccination and building public confidence on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. Audio messages were also played to attract the attention of all residents of the town. The unit COVID care Helpline Numbers were also displayed for wider publicity of the same. Through its efforts the unit is ready to support the civil administration and public in spreading awareness about the pandemic, added the release.
