IMPHAL: Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR(South) has planted more than 42,000 saplings till date. In Van Mahotsav week celebrations alone starting from 01 to 07 July, 2020, a total of 6,000 saplings were planted.
The IGAR(S) informed in a press release that as part of Van Mahotsav celebrations, Assam Rifles continued the afforestation drive for a week with an aim to retain the vanishing forest cover and to raise awareness on the importance of a healthy environment. A total of 6,000 saplings were planted in the Kana valley and Samtal salient.
With an intention to keep the fervour of the initiative going, adequate liaison has been carried out with the Forest department, Thoubal and so far a total of 2000 saplings have been collected and kept in nurseries at various locations to ensure that the tree plantation drive continues with the similar zeal, the IGAR(S) said.
