IMPHAL: The All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union (AMGSU) has provided essential items like rice, mustard oil, dal, onion and salt to the students staying at Karyalaya, Charhajare. All together seven students from BPL families of remote areas of Tamenglong, Senapati and Kangpokpi districts are living there. The essential items were provided to them as stock of ration was exhausted due to the ongoing total lockdown.
In a press release AMGSU said that the students’ union also handed over monetary assistance to the two families of victims of the Kanglatongbi accident which took place on March 23, 2020.
Mention may be made that a stone career truck has hit the two persons approaching from Shantipur side at around 5.45 pm. The truck was coming from Sekmai side and hit the two persons coming with a bicycle and killed one Gopal Bhandari, aged about 37-year-old from Motbung Gorkha, on the spot and seriously injured the other individual identified as Liladhar Dahal, 38 son of Ram Prasad Dahal of Santolabari located under Kangpokpi district.
It is further said that the truck is still at large after hitting the two persons. In connection with the matter a case of hit and run has been registered at Sekmai police station.
In conclusion, the AMGSU stated that it had asked the truck driver and owner to surrender at Sekmai police station at the earliest but unfortunately both of them are yet to surrender till date.
The union also appealed the concerned authority to book the culprit at earliest. The union shared solidarity to the victim families and pray to almighty to provide enough strength, patience and peace to the victims family, added the press release.
