Imphal: The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) has forwarded its condolences on the untimely demise of Laishram Manitombi, former Indian International footballer, at his residence at Achanbigei Mayai Leikai on 8th August, 2020.
A press note from the association mentioned that Manitombi played international football for India team and was in the country’s squad at the Busan Asian Games 2002 and Blue Tigers in 2002. He was part of the famous India U-23 squad that won the LG Cup.
He became a coach, after his playing football career ended and served as the head coach of Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM) for many years in the Manipur State League, AMFA said in the press release. His untimely demise creates a great loss for sports especially in football for the state, it said. The All Manipur Football Association prayed for the perpetual serenity of the departed soul and rest at his heavenly abode and shares the sorrow and grief of the bereaved family, read the statement.
