Thoubal: All the tree saplings which were planted at Yairipok Bishnunaha to Charangpat Canal road stretch amidst lockdown are alive and have grown up completely, said a release issued by Joint Co- Ordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB), Manipur on Frida.
The release stated that JCCWB by joining hands with the members of its Yairipok Branch along with Manipur Police Department, Forest Department and Club, Organisations of Yairipok area had carried out a mass tree plantation programme on June 21, 2020 during COVID-19 lockdown. Luckily, all the planted tree saplings were getting alive and grown up completely at this time, the release states.
The release further stated that JCCWB Yairipok Branch has been organising 5 days cleaning and removing herbs which were grown up near the foot of the planted trees since Thursday.
President JCCWB Yairipok Branch Toijam Thomas Luwang in the release expressed happiness over the success of the plantation drive they conducted and also assured that the team will leave no stone unturned in preserving the grown up plants alive fully. He also appeals to the public to safeguard the trees keeping in mind that they are our best friends, the release states.
