IMPHAL: All Manipur Construction Workers Union on Tuesday staged protest meetings at Imphal East, Imphal West and Jiribam districts as part of the all India movement taken up by its parent organization the Construction Workers Federation of India.
The main function was held at Khwairamband Bazar Bridge in the Imphal West with strict observance of Covid-19 pandemic SoPs.
National secretary Ksh Santa read out the demands of the workers while speaking at the gathering. The demands are amalgamation of the Building and Other Construction Workers Act 1996 and Migrant Workers Act, 1976 with other labour laws; release of Rs 7,500 per month as relief to labourers for a period of six months; provision of 10 kgs of rice to each labourer for six months; relaxation on ban of quarrying of items used in construction works; control on prices of construction items; and welfare benefits for all building and other construction workers. Union leaders Yumnam Sarat and Huiningsungbam Sanayaima took part in the protest meeting.
