Airport staff involved betel leaves case released

 IMPHAL: A 27 years old Soibam Rojit, who is a Junior Assistant Filed staff of Airport Authority of India presently posted at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport was released on his execution of Rs. 50,000 PR and surety bond before the court on Thursday in connection with betel leaves transportation case.

Soibam Ranjit, 27 years, son of late Surjaboro of Changangei Mayai Leikai, Junior Assistant Filed Staff of Airport Authority of India presently posted at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport was arrested on April 8 by a team of Singjamei police station and produced before the court along with the prayer for remanding into judicial custody remand.

The court on perused of the case record order to release the alleged accused on PR bond of Rs 50, 000 and surety of the same amount and was later released on bail after the alleged accused executed his necessary bond and surety before the court.

The sources said that some peoples were arrested by a team of Singjamei police station and some of them are presently on bail while some are in judicial custody failure due to the furnishing of necessary bond before the court.

On April 5, 2020, a team of police arrested one detained one suspected person identified as Aribam Roni, 45 w/o (L) Rajen of Uripok Koisnam Leikai along with two packs (Phai) of betel leaves from Meino Thong area Uripok and was later handed over to concern Singjamei police station for necessary action.

During interrogation, it was revealed by Aribam Roni that two packs Phai) of betel leaves were brought from alleged accused Soibam Rojit after which the alleged accused was arrested by a team of police yesterday by observing necessary formalities in connection with the case.

The sources further stated that during the preliminary interrogation Soibam Rojit admitted the charges leveled against him and that he is a close friend of Laishram Anil @ Chara S/o L Bino of Changangei Mayai leikai and on April 4 in collision with Anil conceal 10 bags of betel leaves in the premises of airport and he had sold two packs (Phai) of betel leaves to Aribam Roni at Rs 15, 000 on March 5 at airport gate.
