IMPHAL: the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examinations, 2020 conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) declared on Monday have shown ‘zero’ pass percentage for 69 government and 17 aided schools.
In all, 9008 students had appeared in the HSLCE, 2020 from 305 Government schools. Out of this, 3,662 students cleared the exam, thereby recording a pass percentage of 40.65. Notably, in the results of HSLCE, 2019, 36 government schools out of 294 recorded nil pass percentage.
Interestingly, among the Government schools which could not produce even a single student who could pass in the exam, are a number of schools which were once acclaimed as best schools. Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School Imphal which was once acclaimed as an esteemed school in the past recorded nil pass percentage in the exam. 12 students of the school appeared in the exam but none passed.
Other government schools that failed to come up with a single student who could make through the exam this time included Awang Longa Koireng HS, Buangmun HS, Bushimanjuri HS, Sagolband, Canchipur HS, Ching Tam HS, Yaingangpokpi, Dr Thuoma HS, Dolangkhunou HS, Senapati, Gallam HS, Senapati, Haobam Marak HS, Heingang HS, Heirangoithong Girls HS, Hengbung HS, Senapati, Huining HS Ukhrul, Ibemcha HS, Khabam, Jai Hind HS, Mantripukhri, Jirigat HS, Kachai HS, Kaikao HS, Tamenglong, Kakching HS, Kalinagar HS, Jiribam, Keirap Aimol HS, Khabi Bamdiar HS, Khongdei HS, Khurai Girls HS, Kiyamgei High Madrassa, Kwakeithel Girls HS, Laikoiching HS, Senapati, Lalambung HS, Lambui HS, Lamdeng HS etc.
Out of the total 67 Government Aided Schools in the State, 17 of them came out with nil pass percentage. In HSLC 2019, 15 Government aided schools out of 65 failed to produce even a single student who could pass in the exam.
Of the 1891 students from the Government Aided Schools that appeared in the exam, 975 students cleared the exam, recording a pass percentage of 51.56.
For private schools, 21 schools out of 523 have shown nil pass percentage. Of the 27,491 students from private schools who appeared in the exam, 20,447 students cleared the exam and thus recording a pass percentage of 74.38.
Although several Government schools recorded nil pass percentage in the result sheets of the exam, two Government school could occupy two positions in the top 25 this year, thus saving the prestige of the Government. Chabungbam Ishwarchandra Singh of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Moirang occupied 7th position in the merit list with a total score of 565 marks while Satmunchon Kipgen of Ekalavya Model Residential School, Gamnon Saparmeina occupied 11th position with a total score of 561.
According to data, some Government schools in the state showed good performance in the exam. Of the 69 students of Moirangpurel Govt High School, 67 passed the exam in first division and 2 in second division and thus recording a 100 pass percentage. 32 students of Ekalavya Model Residential School, Gamnon Saparmeina appeared the exam and all of them passed in the first division. 55 students of Kasom Khullen High school appeared the exam and 53 cleared the exam.
The HSLC exam 2020 was held from February 17 to March 5, 2020. Out of students 38,664 (19,824 girls and 19,040 boys) who appeared the HSLC Exam 2020, 25,084 candidates cleared the exam. The pass percentage for the Manipur BSEM exam result 2020 stands at 65.34%. 11,884 students passed in the first division, 12,648 in second division and 552 in third division, as per the report.
District-wise pass percentages are Imphal West 62.39, Imphal East & Jiribam 57.70, Thoubal & Kakching 77.50, Bishnupur 69.09, Ukhrul & Kamjong 62.74, Churachandpur & Pherzawl 67.38, Senapati & Kangpokpi 63.92, Tamenglong & Noney 49.65 and Chandel & Tengnoupal 65.39.
Notably, this year, the state recorded lowest pass percentage in the last five years with 65 PC.
