65th Wildlife Week Celebration, 2020 ends; prizes and awards distributed

IMPHAL: The 65th Wildlife Week Celebration, 2020 which was observed for the past one week came to an end on Friday at Forest Head Office Imphal with a simple function where awards and prizes were also given away.

The event was organized by the Wildlife Wing and Forest department of Manipur.

Addressing the gathering Awangbow Newmai, Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Change congratulated the winners of different categories and appreciated the activities taken up during the Wildlife Week 2020. Lauding the officials for successfully organising the Wildlife Week 2020 amidst COVID pandemic, he said participation from different stakeholders will increase in manifold the awareness on conservation of forest and wildlife. Urging the award and prize winners of different categories to continue with their efforts in raising awareness on wildlife and environmental conservation, he asked the department officials to continue their hard work to conserve the forest cover for future generation.

Under the ‘State Level Wildlife Protection Incentive Award 2020’ held among different groups and individuals, awards were distributed to People for Animals Manipur, Unique Wildlife Protection Committee, Manipur, Wildlife Explorer Manipur, Safe Environment Campaign Committee, Save Wildlife Foundation, Mordecai Panmei and Major Arun R (AR) and Team.

For the ‘Online State Level Wildlife Photography Competition 2020’ held under the theme: Avifauna of Manipur, first prize was given to Shri Laishram Shamungou Singh for his photograph on ‘Yellow Breasted Bunting’, second prizes to Shri Khoyumthem Brajesh Kumar for his photograph on ‘Amorous Northern Shovellor Pair’ & Shri Harmenn Huidrom for his photograph on ‘Slender Billed Babbler’ and third prize to Shri Elangbam Premjit Singh for his photograph on ‘Wood Snipe/Black Spine’. 

Under the ‘State Level Slogan Writing Competition 2020’ held for Class VI-VIII, Huirem Brajesh Singh (Class VII), Kanawon Ruth Raikhan (Class VIII) and Luisinthuiliu Phaomei (Class VI) were given first, second and third prizes respectively. Consolation prizes were given to Zaenivar Tongsin (Class VIII) and Jenny Abonmai, (Class VIII).

For the ‘State Level Slogan Writing Competition 2020’ held for Class IX-XII, John Tongsin (Class IX), Nengneihat Kipgen (Class X) and Huirem Luxmipriya Devi (Class X) were given first, second and third prizes. Consolation prizes were given to Raiyui Hungyo (Class X) and Tongjam Sanamacha Singh (Class XII).

During the function the Chief Guest, Minister of Forest, Environment, Climate change and Sericulture Awangbow Newmai distributed the prizes to the winners who won the Online State level Wildlife photography competition, Online State Level Slogan writing competition and State level Wildlife Protection Incentive Award 2020.

The Minister also called on the department to invite more participants in near future so that it can create more awareness in the State. He also said that if we all join hands and put an effort even though we may not be able to save the past, we can at least save the future, and if we all work hard, we may not be able to undo the past but we can reveal what is ahead of us.

Even though Manipur is a small state, God has given nothing less in terms of nature, human resources and whatever, the Minister said.

The function was attended by Shri K. Angami, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force (PCCF and HoFF); L. Baite, Additional PCCF and MBB Member Secretary; Dr AK Joshi, Additional PCCF(Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden; officers and staff of the Forest Department, Miss Elangbam Valentina Devi, brand ambassador of CM’s Green Manipur Mission among others.
