TMB Report

Imphal: Six student bodies including Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Manipur Students Federation (MSF) and Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) have appealed to the people to abide by the SOPs announced by the government.

According to a joint press statement, the common people were made to suffer following the government’s announcement of containment zone in Greater Imphal area on April 29 last as a step to prevent further spread of Covid-19

In the meantime, the shop owners have increased the prices of essential commodities at their own will, thereby adding woes to the people who have already suffered from the announcement of containment zone in Greater Imphal for seven days.

The statement appealed to the government to fix the prices in favor of the general people and not as per the wish of the retailers and shop owners. The six student bodies have condemned the previous price list which was released by the government.

Stating that spitting of tobacco products in public places increases the chance of the spread of Covid, it said that the student bodies will look into the matter closely and keep restrictions on selling and use of tobacco products which have been carrying notwithstanding the restriction from the government. This initiative will help in coping with problems being faced by tobacco users in each family, the statement said.

The statement further appealed to the people to not leave the fight against Covid in the hands of the Government alone as following SOP guidelines for Covid is the duty of everyone.
