IMPHAL: Chief Minister N Biren has said that altogether 486 surrenderees from different proscribed outfits have been rehabilitated.
The chief minister made the statement while giving clarification to the policy cut rasied by opposition MLA K Ranjit in the demand of Relief and Rehabilitation in the House.
He said that Manipur is an insurgency ridden state. From 2017 till August 2019, around 70 militants surrendered to the Government. Of this, 20 militants surrendered with arms. Till October 2019, stipends amounting to Rs. 5.70 lakhs and one time compensation grant amounting to Rs 2.50 lakhs per head have been released. Stipends amounting to Rs 647.32 lakhs for 416 surrendered cadres including one time financial assistance amounting to Rs.985 lakhs have been released till October 2019. Around 23.43 crores for 486 surrendered cadres have been released towards payment to settlement, stipend and rehabilitation of the surrenderees.
Chief minister said that skill development trainings are provided to the surrendered militants at their respective camps. If necessary, loans are also provided from the banks with Government as guarantee. Among the surrenderees, 41 eligible surrenderees have been recruited as riflemen and 21 as followers in Manipur police, MR and IRB.
