3 jail staffs suspended in connection with death of murder co-accused

TMB Report: At least 3 jail staffs including one assistant jailor of Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa have been suspended in connection with the death of one Under Trial Prisoner (UTP) named Md. Shiekh Waris by hanging inside the toilet of sector number 7 room number 3 of the said jail at about 4 am on Wednesday.

According to The Morning Bell sources, the Additional Director General of Police (Prison) Manipur, P. Doungel ( IPS) had suspended the three staffs on Thursday.

The 3 jail staffs who were suspended were Arambam Romesh, Assistant jailor, Manipur  Central Jail, Sajiwa; Md. Hamijuddin and K. Tikus TKL, both were  wardens of District jail, Chandel and currently attached to  Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa, the sources informed .

It was also mentioned that disciplinary actions were contemplated against those suspended staffs, and they should have been directed not to leave the headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of the Superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.

Further, it was also ordered that the suspended staffs will be entitled to subsistence allowance  as admissible under rules  during the period of suspension and added  that they would sign the attendance register during the office hours as token of their presence which was maintained by  the Superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, the sources mentioned.
