IMPHAL: In what could definitely come as a major shock to the people of the state, 28 personnel from the Jiribam police station are said to have tested positive for COVID-19.
On Friday, the Health Department informed that 37 fresh cases were reported positive for COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, taking the state’s total count of COVID-19 positive cases to 1316. Of the 37, 28 of them are personnel of Jiribam Police station, a highly reliable source informed.
According to a statement issued by Additional Director Health Department and COVID-19 Common Control Room Spokesperson Dr Khoirom Shasheekumar Mangang in late evening, 37 persons were found positive for the Virus when their samples were tested at RIMS.
Notably, on July 1, one ASI posted at Jiribam PS tested positive for the Virus. The said Police officer was directly involved in screening of returnees who came to the state through special trains. With Police officer getting infected, samples of all the police personal who are in close contacts with him, were collected. The test result came today and 28 samples were found positive for the virus, said the source.
Of the 37 cases, 3 belong to Thoubal, and 6 to Ukhrul while the remainder are from Jiribam. The Health department did not reveal the travel history and address of the individuals. All the patients have been shifted to COVID care centres. Health authority is taking up all necessary preventive and control measures like containment and contact tracing, added the statement.
The Health Department also informed that 23 persons were discharged from the Hospitals on Friday after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. 11 patients were discharged from Covid Care centre, Meitram, 2 from Chandel, 5 from Kasom Khullen, 2 from Ukhrul, 3 from RIMS.
With this, State’s total active COVID-19 cases stands at 677. Till date, altogether 639 patients have been recovered and discharged, recording a recovery rate of 48.55 percent.
Spread of COVID I9 is divided into stages of no case, sporadic cases, clustering of cases and community transmission. There is evidence of local clustering of cases at the Jiribam Police Station. There is no community transmission. Efforts are made to look after the mental wellbeing of the people affected by COVID 19. Till now, State Psychological Support Team has conducted sessions and beneficiaries.
All the 667 active COVID-cases are currently undergoing treatment at RIMS COVID care centre, RIMS, JNIMS, District Hospital Bishnupur, UNACCO school, Meitram, TK Woodland Resort, Tamenglong higher Secondary school, CCC/IO Ward Churachandpur, CCC, Senapati, District Hospital Ukhrul, District Hospital Thoubal, IGTU Makhan, CCC Kakching, and District QCs respectively
