254 new cases reported as one more succumbs to COVID-19; 233 discharged

Moreh Bazar sealed, containment measures put up

Imphal: At least 254 fresh COVID-19 positive cases comprising of 196 (114M, 82F) from general population and 58 personnel from Central Armmed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed in the last 24 hours, taking the total closer to the 10,000-mark.

Another one succumbed to the virus taking the death toll to 63.

According to a Covid Common Control Room release signed by Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Addl Director and Spokesperson, Health Department, Manipur, the positive cases are from RIMS 62; JNIMS -50; Imphal West 63; Ukhrul -2; Raj Medicity-5; Thoubal- 6;Shija Hospital -7; Maipakpi Hospital 1; Tengnoupal 7; Churachandpur – 11; Imphal East – 2; Tamenglong-6; Bishnupur – 3; Kangpokpi 2; Iboyaima Hospital 1; CMC Koirengei – 1; Hillside Hospital – 1; Advance Hospital-1; Babina Diagnostics- 11; Kakching – 12.

The general population are from Imphal West 127; Imphal East – 13; Churachandpur – I1; Bishnupur – 5; Thoubal – 12; Kakching 12; Kangpokpi – 1; Tamenglong -7; Tengnoupal6; Ukhrul -2. Two persons (Bishnupur -1, IE -1) are returnees from other states while the rest 194 are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the last 24 hours, one female aged 55 yrs from Bishnupur expired at RIMS. The cumulative number of deaths is 63, as per the Covid Common Control Room.

Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang also informed that 233 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours.

They are from CAPF (2), RIMS (2), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (142), RD Wing (16), UNACCO (41), JNIMS (4), CCC Lamding Thoubal (2). PR Kakching (13), Senapati (1), NIELIT Churachandpur (6) and Lanva Churachandpur (4) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.

According to Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, the cumulative number of positive cases is 9791 (General Population 7670 and Central Security Personnel -2121). The cumulative number of recovered cases is 7602 (General Population – 5887 and Central Security Personnel – 1715). The number of active cases is 2126 (General Population 1723 and Central Security Personnel -403). The recovery rate is 77.64 %.

If you were in contact with a positive person, self isolate immediately, the Addl Director of the Health Department said and called for contacting Covid Control Room or CMO for testing.

Meanwhile, with reports that 6sx) individuals from Moreh Bazaar, Ward No. 6, Moreh Sub Division of Tengnoupal District have tested COVID-19 positive and in view of impending threat of COVID-19 pandemic in the areas, Mayanglambam Rajkumar, DC has called for sealing of the area.

It has become expedient to issue containment measures to prevent spread of disease in the area, the DC said.

Under Para 12 of “The Manipur Epidemic Disease, COVID-19) Regulation, 2020”, the DC sealed the geographical areas, prohibited entry and exit of people from the geographical areas of Moreh Bazaar, W. No. 6, Moreh Sub Division, Tengnoupal District; East-Eastem Shine School, West- Road to Moreh High School and North- Di Parking, South- Way to Moreh Bazar.

The DC also initiated active surveillance of COVID-19 cases.

The DC stated that movement for medical emergencies and supply of essential goods and services and for immediate necessary enforcements will be allowed. However, he warned that any person/institution/organisation found violating any of the containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under section 188 of Indian Penal Code and section 51 of The Disaster Management, 2005.
