IMPHAL: The 20th Death Anniversary of Arambam Samarendro was observed at his memorial site at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, jointly organized by the Arambam Samarendra Trust and Social Standard Club, on Wednesday.
Member of Arambam Samarendra Trust Shamandram Shamu stated that due to COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions and norms imposed the event was observed as a simple one with the primary purpose of remembering his works of arts and culture, his efforts to bring revolution for farmers and labourers, etc. He recalled that Arambam Samarendra worked towards promoting culture and empowerment of women, unity among the different indigenous communities living both in the hills and valley.
Vice President of Social Standard Club Nongmaithem Priyokumar also stated that the martyrs’ day of the great leader Arambam Samarendra was observed as a plain event with the main items being offering of floral tributes unlike before which were observed accompanied with various programs of public gathering and competitions due to present situation of COVID-19.
In the event, leaders of CSOs, Meira Paibi organisations, family members and various individuals offered floral tributes to the portrait of Arambam Samarendra.
The Martyrs Day of Arambam Samarendra was also observed at MIMS department maintaining WHO guidelines of social distancing by Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU). In connection with the observance 3rd Ireipak Iramdam Ningshing Sheidam event was also held.
MUSU Economics CR Thoudam Robindro presided the event, AMSU President Laishram Peter was the Chief Guest and Advisor of Manipur University Human Resource Development Committee (MUHRDC) Khundrakpam Jimmy was the Guest of Honour. The event also hosted floral tribute ceremony and a blood donation campaign at RIMS.
