THOUBAL: The Salungpham-Wangjing road was blocked on Monday for a brief period from morning till noon in connection with the death of a teenager, which his family members claimed was due to grievous physical assault.
According to reports, the deceased was identified as a 19 year old boy named Sapam Sital, son of Khomdon, from Salungpham Sapam Leirak, who worked as a carpenter.
Reports from the site of the incident stated that the deceased was found lying along the road at a spot at Ifutkom which is between Heirok and Salungpham at around 8 pm on Sunday. He was first spotted by commuters along the road. Though, he was taken to the district hospital at Khangabok, doctors there declared him brought dead. An unnatural death case was filed by the concerned police station and the body has been taken to JNIMS for post mortem, reports added.
On the other hand, the father of the deceased asserted that the latter left home in a newly purchased vehicle at around 4 pm on the same day. Four hours later, they received the news of his son being found on the roadside in a serious condition. When, family members reached the hospital, he was already dead, Khomdon said.
Khomdon stated that the manner of death of his son was very suspicious and it appeared that Shital was left at the spot after he was killed.
His uncle Sapam Ibopishak stated from the wounds in his body and lack of scratch marks on the vehicle, the death seemed to be a case of homicide and not an accident.
However, police reports said there is no concrete proof on the reason behind the death of the teenager. The details can be ascertained only after the post mortem is available but an unnatural death case has been filed.
From the morning, villagers of Salungpham blocked traffic along the Wangjing-Salungpham road demanding the disclosure of the details behind his death. However, the blockade was relaxed around noon after an agreement was reached between the protestors and police.
A joint action committee was formed in connection with the incident and various resolutions have been passed with a warning for intensification of stir if its demands are not fulfilled by March 5, 2020. On the other hand, a protest demonstration was held at Salungpham Sapam Uku Lamkhai.
