11 security escort personnel of Ibobi test positive; ex-CM and family negative

123 locals sans travel history test positive, 157 discharged

IMPHAL: As many as 11 security escort personnel of former chief minister of Manipur and opposition leader Okram Ibobi Singh tested positive for COVID-19. However, Ibobi and his family members have reportedly tested negative.

Samples of Okram Ibobi and his family were tested at Babina Diagnostics Center and turned out to be negative for the contagion, according to a source.

The security personnel who tested positive have been referred to Covid care centre while some others have been directed for self-isolation.

On Monday, leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) O Ibobi Singh had also attended the felicitation of businessman Arunkumar Thangjam, the proprietor of Arun Enterprises hosted by the party at Congress Bhavan.

With some security escorts of Ibobi testing positive, party members and other individuals who had attended the felicitation programme have been asked to isolate themselves and get COVID-19 testing as a precautionary measure. Few Congress MLAs have also undergone testing for COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon and the results are awaited. Meanwhile, various preventive measures like sanitisation was carried out at the Congress Bhawan on Wednesday morning to contain the spread of COVID-19, added the sources.

Meanwhile, local transmission of Covid-19 continued to spiral out of hand in the state with as many as 123 locals without significant history of travelling to outside the state testing positive for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

 According to a statement issued by Dr Shasheekumar Manganga, Additional Director Health Department and Spokesperson Covid Common Control Room,  the 125 fresh cases including 123 civilians and two personnel of CAPF were tested positive for Covid-19 at Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory of RIMS (7), VRDL JNIMS (2), Raj Medicity (8), Babina Diagnostic (9), Imphal west (30),Jeevan Hospital (2), Maipakpi Hospital (1), Kakching (3), Bishnupur (16), Shija Hospital (2), Advance Hospital (1), Imphal east RAT (5), Thoubal (10), Churachandpur (28) and Imphal Hospital (1).

They belong to Imphal West district (40), Imphal east district (18),Thoubal district (14), Bishnupur district (17), Chandel district (1), Churachandpur district (28) and Kakching (5). All the infected patients will be shifted to COVID care facilities and necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the statement of CCR.

State reported no Covid-19 related case on Wednesday. However, 29 individuals have earlier succumbed to the virus and other comorbid health conditions.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 157 Covid patients were discharged from CAPF (63), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (45), CCC UNACCO Meitram (29), JNIMS (1), RIMS (5), RD Wing (11), CCC JNV Chandel (2) and PR kakching (1) after they were found Covid free on RT PCR test.

With 4607 Covid-19 patients having recovered and been discharged, the state’s active Covid-19 cases stand at 1871. Recovery rate pegs at 70.80 percent by Wednesday, added the Health Department.

The release further informed that as a part of the intensive awareness drive, miking was carried out in the areas of Dharmashala Bazar, Konthoujam Lairembi, Samurou area, Lamdeng Khunou, Taothong Khunou, Hiyangthang Pallak, Lamshang Thong Maning, Watham Leirak, Thangmeiband, Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai and Kwakeithel Takhellambam Leikai.
