10,000 pieces of WY Tablets seized

Imphal: A team of Anti-Drug Cell Unit of Jiribam District has seized 10,000 pieces of contraband WY tablets from one TATA Sumo bearing registration number MN04A-1579 on Tuesday around 10:30 AM near Driver Union Office, Jiribam. The driver has also been arrested.

The arrested driver of the TATA Sumo is identified as Md Sahidur Ahamad (48), son of (L) Md. Abdul Shamad of Kwakta Khuman, Ward No. 8 under Moirang Police Station of Bishnupur District.

According to Police sources, the team of Anti-Drug Cell Unit of Jiribam District led by Head constable Arambam Chingnangkhomba Luwang under the supervision of DSP(R)/Jiribam K. Gitchandra Singh carried out routine frisking and checking at Leingangpokpi frisking point along NH-37 near Driver Union Office.

During the frisking, the very TATA Sumo was stopped for checking and during the checking one rice bag was found in between the front and rear seat.

Upon opening of the rice bag one packed bundle wrapped with cello tape was found concealed inside the rice bag and on opening of the packed bundle, 50 numbers of small bags containing 200 each of contraband WY tablets of 10,000 pieces were detected.

On verification, the driver identified himself as Md Sahidur Ahamad and was arrested and seized the contraband WY tablets from his possession.

The arrested driver along with the seized WY tablets were produced before the Ld. Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Jiribam in compliance of the guidelines of the  Supreme Court of India for sampling and other necessary legal formalities.

A case under FIR No. 11(09)2020 JBM PS u/s 22(c)/60(3) ND & PS Act. has also been registered at Jiribam Police Station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Police are on the attempt to establish the ownership of the seized contraband WY tablets, the source added.
