Imphal: Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba has announced that 10 percent of his MP Local Area Development Fund will be allocated for the welfare of physically challenged persons of the State.Launching Divyang Mitra and Netra Kumbh 2021-22 organized by Samadrishti Kshamata Vikash Evam Anusandhan Mandal at Nupilal Complex on Saturday, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba stated that the MP Local Area Development Fund for all the MPs of the country was not allocated for two years in order to fight the Covid-19 pandemic following a decision taken by the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All the MPs have donated their fund for fighting Covid-19 and as such, they have been hit to take up any development activities under the fund, he added.Exuding confidence that MP fund will be released from June/July 2022, he assured that once the fund is released, 10 percent of it will be utilized for welfare activities of physically challenged persons.The State has no concrete policy for differently abled persons, the MP said, assuring that he would bring up the matter to the notice of the concerned ministry and the Chief Minister.The Almighty is not satisfied with mere offerings. Service to the physically challenged persons is service to God. Nobody wants to be a physically challenged person. It is due to either creation of God or fate. People should extend a friendly hand to them, he stated.The MP also assured that he will exert pressure on the government to complete the construction of blind hospital in the State as soon as possible.Member, Academic & Activities Council, National Sports University Sapam Nishikant Singh who attended as Guest of honour donated a sum of Rs. 1 lakh to SAKSHAM. A free eye screening camp for media persons was also organised as part of the programme.
